Robbie Robertson is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer. He is best known as the lead guitarist and primary songwriter for the rock band The Band. Robertson was born on July 5, 1943, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He began his music career in the late 1950s and early 1960s, playing in various bands and working as a session musician. In 1965, he joined forces with four other musicians to form The Band.

With The Band, Robertson achieved critical and commercial success, contributing to hit songs such as "The Weight," "Up on Cripple Creek," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The Band's unique blend of rock, folk, country, and blues-influenced countless musicians and helped define the sound of Americana music.


After The Band's breakup in 1976, Robertson embarked on a successful solo career, releasing several albums and collaborating with artists such as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and U2. He has also composed film scores, including for Martin Scorsese's movies such as "Raging Bull" and "The Color of Money."


Throughout his career, Robertson has been recognized for his songwriting talent and musical contributions. He has received numerous awards and honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Robertson continues to make music and is regarded as one of the most influential figures in rock music.
